Description

The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) holds the annual GridSecCon series to bring together cyber and physical security experts from industry and government to share emerging security trends, policy advancements, and lessons learned related to the electricity industry. The first conference was held in New Orleans in October 2011, and has rotated through the NERC Regional Entities across North America. The seventh annual GridSecCon is in the Midwest Reliability Organization region. The conference spans four days and includes training, general sessions, utility tours, and threat briefings at the classified and for official use only level.

GridSecCon objectives include:

  • Promoting reliability of the Bulk Power System through training and education;
  • Delivering cutting-edge discussions on critical infrastructure security threats, vulnerabilities, and lessons learned from senior industry and government leaders; and
  • Informing industry about security best practices for reliability concerns, risk mitigation, and cyber and physical security threat awareness.

The draft agenda will be posted to the NERC website mid-Summer 2017.

What is the difference between the FOUO and classified threat briefs?

The "for official use only (FOUO)" threat brief will be held at the hotel and attendees will require a government issued photo ID to attend (no media, please.) Individuals who can pass their security clearances (logistics are TBD) will be transported to and from a separate location to recieve an additional threat brief at the Secret level. These events will allow the first threat brief to be common to all attendees and built upon for those with government security clearances in the follow-on session.
